Happy Father's Day from all of us at MeiDay Accounting! 🎉 This Sunday, June 21st, we want to take a moment to celebrate all the dads, stepdads, grandfathers, and father figures out there — especially our amazing Napa community dads who show up every single day. Dads have a way of dropping financial wisdom on us whether we asked for it or not. And honestly? A lot of it holds up. "Money doesn't grow on trees."
A classic. And while it's usually said in response to asking for something expensive at the grocery store checkout, the lesson is real: money takes effort to earn and deserves to be spent thoughtfully.
"Pay yourself first."
The dads who said this were ahead of their time. Before you pay your bills, your subscriptions, or your going-out fund — put something aside for savings. Even $50 a paycheck adds up to $1,300 a year.
"If you can't pay cash for it, you can't afford it." Okay, this one has some nuance (mortgages exist for a reason), but the spirit is right. Living beyond your means through credit card debt is one of the biggest financial traps out there. Dad knew.
"Keep a rainy day fund."
Emergency funds aren't exciting. But when the car breaks down, the roof leaks, or a slow business month hits — that 3-6 months of expenses sitting in savings? That's dad's voice in your head saying "I told you so" in the best possible way.
"Know where your money is going."
Dads who balanced checkbooks (remember that?) understood that awareness is the foundation of financial health. Today that looks like reviewing your bank statements, using a budgeting app, or working with an accountant who can give you a clear picture. ## Honoring the Dads in Your Life Whatever you're doing this Sunday — a backyard BBQ, a phone call, a round of golf — we hope you take a moment to honor the father figures who shaped you. And if your dad was the kind who slipped you a $20 "just because" — well, that's its own kind of financial lesson too. 💛 Happy Father's Day from MeiDay Accounting. We're grateful for this community.
